About Moongchi

“Our Very Existence is a Movement.”

Moongchi is the Network of women with prostitution experience.

Moongchi first started out as an informal gathering. It was first formed in 2006 for women with prostitution experience to get together to talk about their experiences. Stories that had been buried inside us for a long time rushed out like waterfall. No one was forced to share, but the group felt as safe as the inside of a womb and the stories flowed out of us. Just looking at each other, we could tell that we understood each other. The words floated out of us and the heavy weight that kept us down was lifted from all of us as we wept and blew our noses together. So the group evolved into Moongchi, which means “to gather,” because nothing is impossible when we gather together. We hold local support groups in the areas where we live, and the groups come together to form Moongchi. Each year, we make time and space for people who share our passion for the anti-prostitution movement. We form groups individually and together. We’re all in other areas of society doing other work, but each time a tragedy occurs to women in prostitution, we are there picketing and holding candlelight vigils. Moongchi wants their voices to carry and their actions to make a difference in the world. They wish to express their anger and needs and be proactive in their assertions that “Enough is enough.”
