May Update from the National Solidarity against Sexual Exploitation of Women
May was a particularly busy month as the country prepared for an early presidential election following the impeachment of Yoon Suk-yeol. The National Solidarity against Sexual Exploitation of Women, along with other women’s organizations, carried out various initiatives to ensure a gender-equal election.
Under the banner of “Feminist Joint Action for Gender-Equal Politics,” we organized campaigns inviting public participation. On May 10, we joined the Feminist March from Yongsan to Gwanghwamun, creating a powerful moment for feminist voters to raise their voices and present diverse demands throughout the election period.
In addition, we drafted key feminist policy proposals and delivered them to several political parties, while also holding policy roundtables to engage with candidates and policymakers.
Our activities in the Joint Committee for Measures to Support Women in the Mia-ri Prostitution District also continued throughout May. On May 16, we held a press conference in front of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the responsible local authority, to demand concrete support measures. Starting May 19, we launched a one-person relay protest in front of Seoul City Hall, which will continue through June.
We sincerely ask for your continued support and solidarity.
