National Solidarity against Sexual Exploitation of Women – July Activities Update(25.07)

July Update from the National Solidarity against Sexual Exploitation of Women

In July 2025, women’s rights activist Kim Ae-ran, who dedicated her life to advocating for the rights of former Korean “camptown” women exploited around U.S. military bases, passed away at the age of 75. During her lifetime, Ms. Kim testified in the historic lawsuit for state compensation for former U.S. military comfort women, contributing to a landmark victory. In accordance with her wishes, her activism was made public only after her passing. We express our deepest gratitude for her dedication and commitment.

Meanwhile, the emergency housing fund campaign for women in Mia-ri, a former red-light district in Seoul, successfully reached its fundraising goal of 10 million KRW. The funds will be delivered through the Women’s Human Rights Center “Boda,” with priority support for approximately 40 women. We also completed the Manse Book, a newly produced welfare guidebook for women in Mia-ri. This guide includes information on welfare systems and available support services, and will be distributed through outreach activities and in the field.

From late June to early July, the organization conducted an on-site investigation in Vietnam to examine the realities of overseas sex buying tourism by South Korean men. Based on the findings, a report presentation titled “Cross-Border Sexual Exploitation: South Korean Men Traveling Abroad to Buy Sex” will be held on September 2, both online and offline.

We look forward to your interest and participation.
